HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. It delivers ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin, to the layers that support the face.

In my Edinburgh practice, it is the technology I turn to when loss of lift has become structural, rather than something sitting on the surface.

How it works

Focused ultrasound heats precise points beneath the skin. The skin responds by repairing itself and producing new collagen, which tightens and lifts from within. Some lift is visible straight away. The rest builds over the following months as the new collagen forms.

What I use it for

  • Heavier jowls and a softening jawline

  • Lines that have deepened into folds

  • Lined, loosening skin on the neck

HIFU works best where there is real laxity to address. For earlier changes, I usually begin with other technologies.

What to expect

A session takes between 90 minutes and two hours. There is no downtime, and it is usually repeated once a year.

Within a Skin Journey

HIFU does the deep structural work. Within a Skin Journey I combine it with technologies that work on the muscle and on the skin itself, so the result is lift that still looks like you.
